[TRANS] JYJ: The reason for why they could not help but do what they did…’Extreme/excessive Sasaeng’

Idol stars JYJ are currently engulfed in a violence-and-abuse controversy. However, exactly what is the root of this current controversy?
On the 6th, an entertainment media site publicly alleged that idol group JYJ had verbally abused and hit sasaeng fans. They further on stated that there were voice files recordings attained from these sasaengs to prove it.
Prior to the 6th, an online community board posted a message titled “Park Yoochun hits a Sasaeng.” A video recording was even uploaded and made known to the public. […]
However, despite the recent controversy and its potential damage to JYJ’s image, in order to understand why JYJ could not help but do what they did, we must first take a look at what the members experienced after their debut and understand the pain they had been going through for the past 6 years. One cannot simply cover up the underlying issue/problem by simply saying “They hit fans.”
The fact that JYJ verbally abused sasaeng cannot be denied. However, ever since the members of JYJ were part of 5 member group DBSK, they had already encountered disparaging/painful experiences of sasaeng chasing after them.
These sasaeng would undergo 24 hour surveillance of the members; monitoring there every move, taking pictures and recording videos. When DBSK were doing their activities in Japan, the trend of sasaeng spread from simply Korean fans to Japanese and Chinese fans as well. One Japanese fan even moved closer to live next to DBSK’s residence and publicly announced that she monitored their every move.
These fans don’t just simply monitor DBSK from afar, they go to more extremes.
There are “sataek”, or taxis that solely work for the purpose of helping sasaengs chase their idols and in many cases, cause car accidents on purpose. A journalist once commented on JYJ or DBSK members, saying “I’m surprised they did not go crazy.”
JYJ members have, in the past, repeatedly stated that they saw sasaengs not as fans. They even posted on their twitters that they did not appreciate the actions of sasaengs. However, rather than having an effect on sasaengs, the situation seems to have gotten worse.
It cannot be avoided that JYJ members did in fact verbally abuse sasaengs. It also cannot be helped that their image will be damaged. However, if you think about it this way, the members knew of the repercussions yet they still lashed out at them. What does this mean? It means that the situation with sasaeng had reached a point where they could not help but do so.
For every instance there is an underlying reason.  There is no such thing as an action without reason.
